William R. (Bill) Uplinger, 71, of Conneaut Lake, died suddenly Saturday, October 13, 2007 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born September 21, 1936 in Reynoldsville, a son of the late Reid and Edith Stiver Uplinger. He had been married to Sandra King and subsequently married Mary-Jo Simonette October 11, 1989.
He was a graduate of Conneaut Lake High School and was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He worked for over 40 years as a mechanic, mostly at the Chevrolet dealership in Conneautville and retired from Smith-Gray in Meadville in 2004.
He was affiliated with First Church of God, Meadville, loved working on cars and especially his grandchildren.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Mary-Jo, include 2 sons, Randy Uplinger and his wife Patti Jo of Linesville and Rick Uplinger and his wife Joyce of Meadville; a daughter, Wendy Meyers and her husband David of Conneaut Lake; 3 stepchildren, Melissa Ott of Meadville; Joseph Gehr and his wife Carla of Oxford; and Shawn Watt of Arizona; 2 brothers, Richard Uplinger and his wife Susie of Conneaut Lake and Jerry Uplinger of Harrisburg; 12 grandchildren, David, Katie Jo, James, Noah, Josiah, Mary, Abby, Annamarie, Aaron, Christina, Alexis, and Brittany Uplinger; 4 step-grandchildren, Adam Meyers, Brandy Swogger, Brendon Ott, and Abryanna Epps. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Brendon Uplinger.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Waid-Coleman Funeral Home, 12422 Conneaut Lake Rd., Conneaut Lake.
A funeral service will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Temple Jarrell, Pastor of First Church of God officiating.
Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Harmonsburg with military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville.
