William Schlachter, 87, of Meadville, formerly of Pittsburgh, died Monday, April 8, 1991, at Meadville Medical Center following an illness of several months.
He was born at Pittsburgh, August 10, 1903, a son of Peter and Lousisa Rinehardt Schlachter. He married Jane Bauer, May 15, 1922. She died May 24, 1963. He subsequently married Mary E. Shilling, June 20, 1964.
Schlachter retired in 1966 from Harris Pump and Supply Co., Pittsburgh, where he was a warehouse foreman. He previously worked in shipping and receiving for Kelly and Jones Co., Pittsburgh. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Meadville.
Schlachter was a graduate of Pittsburgh Public schools and a member of the 21 Plus Club, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Crawford County Senior Citizens and a retired member of Teamsters Local 249, Pittsburgh.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three step-daughters, Mrs Clifford (Edith) Shuffstall of Conneaut Lake, Mrs. Dale (Lois) Peterson of Meadville and Mrs. Milo (Marget) Gevin of Cochranton; two step-sons, Duane C. Shilling of Meadville and John Shilling of Conneaut Lake; two grandchildren; thirteen step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and ten step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jane Gsell, a son, Willliam Schlachter, Jr.; two brothers and two sisters.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Huber Cemetery.
