William Stanley Mattocks, Sr., 83, of Guys Mills, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born June 11, 1940, in Meadville, a son of Virgil E. and Inez Mae Waid Mattocks. He married Shirley Young in 1957 and she preceded him in death March 3, 1985. He subsequently married Carol J. Alsbaugh May 17, 1986, and she preceded him in death June 30, 2023.
Bill was a 1958 graduate of Randolph East Mead High School. He worked at Abex and then as a partner in the family feed store business, Mattocks Five, Inc. Bill was an avid woodworker and enjoyed hunting.
He was a member of First Baptist Church and loved bible studies.
Survivors include three children, William Mattocks, Jr. (Deborah) of Meadville; Robert Mattocks (Marcelle) of Guys Mills; and Robin Mattocks Powell (Stephen) of Cuyahoga Falls, OH; seven grandchildren, Lauren Steinbeck (Erik), Kristen Anderson (Barry), Robert Mattocks, Jr. (Tara), Kayla Jones (Nick), Samantha Mattocks, Erica Powell, and Kathryn Powell; nine great-grandchildren; Dakota, Noah, Isiah, Hannah, Raegan, Ryan, Hayden, Brighton, and Caleb; two brothers, Larry Mattocks (Linda) of Meadville and Ronald Mattocks (Bonnie) of Guys Mills; two sisters-in-law, Maggie Mattocks of Elizabethtown and Patricia Mattocks of Guys Mills; several nieces and nephews including niece, Genne Young Hemminger who Bill helped raise; and caretaker and good friend, Christine (Christina).
He was preceded in death by his parents; wives; a daughter, Tamara Mattocks; two brothers, David and Richard Mattocks; and a sister, Shirley Waterhouse
Calling hours will be Saturday, August 19th from 12-2 p.m. at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE where the funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Steve Mattocks, nephew and Assistant Pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery.
