Willis Blaine Mumau

Willis Blaine Mumau, 85, formerly of Meadville, passed away Saturday, September 12, 2020 at the Crawford County Care Center with his loving wife by his side.

He was born April 8, 1935 in Meadville, a son of Frank and Laura Stear Mumau.  He had been married to Beverly Landers and subsequently married Shirley Rohleder Gongaware July 14, 1970.

Blaine was a graduate of Meadville High School.  He served in the U.S. Army Reserves for over four years and was called to active duty from 1961 to 1962.  He worked at Channellock for 40 years, retiring in 1997.

Blaine was a longtime member of First Christian Church.  He was a former member of the Meadville Sportsman’s Club and the Meadville Archery Club.  He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing, camping and cutting wood.

Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Shirley of 50 years, include five children, Mark Mumau (Sonia) of Moorpark, CA, Jeff Mumau (Rose) of Conneaut Lake, Gail Gongaware of New York City, Scott Gongaware (Patty) of Valencia, and Barbara Gongaware Smith of Meadville; six grandchildren, Alex Mumau (Julianna), Jeremy Mumau, Bryan Mumau, Tanya Ring (Zechariah), Brent Smith (Kristy) and Dana Smith; five great-grandchildren, Cameron and Bethany Mumau, Alexander Ring, and Reagan and Garrett Smith; a brother, Harold Mumau (Selene) of Meadville; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Daniel Mumau and a sister, Ruth Louise Mumau Ritenour.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, September 16th from 3 to 6 p.m. at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE where the wearing of masks is requested.  The funeral service will follow at 6:00 p.m. with the Rev. Harold Walton officiating and military honors provided by VFW Post 2006.

Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery.
