Wilma Marie Skelton Dennis, 86, of Jamestown, died Thursday, March 30, 2017 in Jamestown surrounded by her caregivers.
She was born April 22, 1930 in Zanesville, Ohio, a daughter of Albert Russell and Anna Marie Martin Skelton. She married Lee Arden Dennis June 18, 1971 and he preceded her in death July 3, 2012.
Wilma was a 1948 graduate of East Fallowfield High School, a graduate of Thiel College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, and a 1979 graduate of Edinboro State Teacher’s College with a Master’s Degree in Education. She was a passionate and dedicated teacher and principal in the Greenville School system for over 30 years.
Wilma was a member of the Conneaut Lake Area Historical Society, PA Assn. of School Retirees, PA State Education Assn., National Education Assn., and Business and Professional Women. An avid reader, she enjoyed gardening, traveling, doing crafts, cooking, attending auctions, collecting Blue Willow dishware, antique furniture, bird watching, studying fungi, nature photography, and annually designing and decorating a themed Christmas tree that her extended family enjoyed during holiday gatherings.
Wilma was of the Protestant faith.
Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews including Marie Schlosser and her husband Jim of Conneaut Lake; great-nieces and great-nephews including Jennifer Arnett and her husband Joe of Jamestown and their children Katie and Beth; two sisters, Carol Douglas of Fort Myers, FL and Nancy Weaver and her husband Bob of Maple Valley, WA; and a brother-in-law, Clarence (Dave) Davidson of Niles, OH.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Gerald, Albert Jr., and Kenneth Skelton and three sisters, Zelma McConnell, Shirley Loeffel, and Geraldine Burleson.
A graveside service will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Lakeview Cemetery, Conneaut Lake with the Rev. John Hall, Chaplain of Heartland Hospice, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assn., 1600 Peninsula Dr., Suite 15, Erie, PA 16505 or the Crawford County Read Program, 640 Walnut St., Meadville, PA 16335.
