Wilma F. Roha, 85, formerly of 21508 Star Route, Meadville and a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community for the past two years, died there, Sunday, August 17, 2003 following a period of declining health.
She was born in Meadville September 3, 1917, a daughter of the late H. Glenn and Daisy A. Kelly Carr. She married Neil A. Roha August 30, 1940 and he preceded her in death February 13, 1993.
She was a 1935 graduate of Meadville High School, and was first employed at the switchboard at Meadville City Hospital, then worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Carl Sturdevant. She then worked at First National Bank during World War II, then for 17 years as secretary at the Meadville Salvation Army office retiring in 1973. She was co-owner with her husband of Center Bowl of Meadville for 42 years.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, and had been active in the Joy Circle of the church. She was a member of Golden Crown Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, the Meadville Women’s Club, and the Meadville chapter of AARP, having served as secretary. She was a former member of Penn West Chapt. of National Travelers, Inc. She was honored by Crawford County for a continuous voting record of over 50 years. She enjoyed bowling, having bowled three 200 games when over the age of 80 years. Her other interests included embroidery, crocheting afghans, and traveling in their motor home.
Survivors include 1 daughter; Virginia Fanning and her husband William of Meadville; 1 son, Thomas A. Roha and his wife Ronaleen, Washington, D.C; 5 grandchildren, Jeffrey, Douglas, & Dennis Fanning, Kristin & Matthew Roha, and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Helen Collier and Evelyn Carr, and 1 brother, John Carr.
Calling hours will be today (Tuesday) 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St, Meadville.
The funeral service will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, 890 Liberty St., Meadville with the Rev. Drew Elling, Assoc. Pastor and the Rev. William A. Smith, Pastor Emeritus, officiating.
Burial will be in Greendale Cemetery.
