Winifred L. Adsit, 86, of Erie, died Friday, August 20, 2010 at Wesbury United Methodist Community, Meadville.
She was born in Riceville Corners, Crawford Co., PA November 29, 1923 a daughter of George Edward and Jassamine Jackson Beckwith. She married H.V. Kurtz and subsequently married Robert E. Adsit who preceded her in death in 1998.
She was a 1941 graduate of Bloomfield Consolidated High School in Lincolnville, PA and a 1942 graduate of Jamestown Business College. She was a hard worker all her life. From 1944-1952 she and her husband operated Fish in a Basket concession stand at the entrance to Presque Isle State Park. From 1952-1969 she worked as Executive Secretary to the President of Penn Brass and Copper in Erie. After learning computers at the age of 65 she was manager of Pearson Molding and Supply from 1984-2002 also of Erie. She also assisted her husband in the operation of his business Robert Adsit Moving and Trucking and the management of his warehouses, tugboats, car lots and apartment buildings until his retirement in 1968.
An avid musician, she played the piano, organ, violin and trombone and would often substitute for Brad Swanson around Erie. She enjoyed needlepoint/petit point and was considered an expert by many local shop owners. She also spent time on decoupage, sewing, costume and clothing design. She and her husband, Robert, also enjoyed yachting on Lake Erie in their 40' Owens named Renee II.
Survivors, include: a daughter, Sheila Tomlinson-Earl and her husband Theodore of Middle Haddam, CT; a sister, Donna Carpenter of Niles, OH; two brothers, Rexford Beckwith and his wife Louise of Las Vegas, NV and Harold Beckwith and his wife Edna of Corry; a granddaughter, Renee Tomlinson of Meadville and her father Lloyd W. Tomlinson of Greensburg; three great grandchildren, Roberto Morales, Maximiliano Morales and Joseph Allan Tomlinson and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Craig Glen Robert Tomlinson; two brothers, George Beckwith and James Beckwith and two sisters, Jessie Beckwith and Georgiavenne Strickland.
Calling hours will be Monday from 4-8 p.m. at Dusckas Funeral Home, 536 W 10th Street, Erie.
The funeral service will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Stone United Methodist Church, 956 S. Main Street, Meadville, with the Rev. John Spahr, Pastor, officiating.
Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery, Meadville.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Stone United Methodist Church Youth Choir Education Fund, 956 S. Main Street, Meadville, PA 16335.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.
