Winifred L. Rice

Mrs. Winifred (Winnie) L. Rice, 68, of Meadville, died Wednesday, March 9, 1988, at Meadville Medical Center after a sudden illness.

She was born in Woodcock Township, May 23, 1919, a daughter of Dazelle D. Laura I. Brown Van Marter.  She married Charles M. Rice, June 14, 1941.  She previously was employed for several years as office secretary for the dean of women at Allegheny College.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, the MCR Class, and a former member of various boards and committees of the church; member and treasurer of Mead Chapter 445, Order of the Eastern Star, of which matron; member and past officer of the former Trinity White Shrine 33; member of Vernon Grange where she was chairman of the women's activities committee; an officer of Crawford County Pomona Grange, secretary of the Ladies Masonic Hall Committee secretary to Northwestern Commandery Aux., past president and current publicity chairman of Northwest Council of Republicans Women and past district deputy grand matron of the Order of the Eastern Star of Pennsylvania.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Robert L. Rice of Dayton, OH; her mother of Meadville; one sister, Marjorie V. Norton of Saegertown; two grandchildren and three nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert L. Van Marter and an infant daughter, Carolyn Mae.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
