Winifred Marcella Drake

February 26, 1927 — May 29, 2014

Winifred Marcella Drake, 87, of Meadville went to be with her Lord on May 29, 2014 at the Marquette Hospice House.  Marcella was a devoted mother, grandmother, teacher and friend who will be greatly missed.

Marcella was born in Townville on February 26, 1927 a daughter of Henry and Winifred Semmens Peavy.  She married Harlan Wendell Drake on July 19, 1945 and he preceded her in death on May 13, 1998.

Marcella graduated from Townville High School and Edinboro University.  She worked at Talon and was a homemaker before attending Edinboro to become a teacher.  She taught Special Education for Crawford Central School District for 26 years.  She attended New Beginnings Church of God.

She is survived by a son, Douglas Drake and his wife Tina of Meadville; a daughter, Pamela Gamret and her husband Rick of Naples, FL and five grandchildren, Aaron and Nancy Drake of Meadville, Richard Gamret of Tampa, FL and Dylan and Alexandra Caresse Gamret of Naples, FL.  In addition, she is survived by several devoted nieces and nephews, Madelyn and Phil Crail of Chicago, Larry and Sharon Marsh of Mason, OH, Tim and Wilma Marsh of Ft. Wayne, IN, Cindy and Mark Hatch of Thousand Oakes, CA and Jim and Cindy Bly of Allison Park, PA.

In addition to her husband and parents, Marcella was preceded in death by two sisters and their husbands, Alice Anne and Ken Marsh of Mt. Gilead, OH and Mary Ellen and Leo Bly of Titusville and two sisters-in-law, Arnellon Hunt of Los Angeles and Janet Nelson of Truth or Consequences, NM and their spouses.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 10, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at New Beginnings Church of God, 13226 Leslie Road, Meadville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Crawford County (for the Marquette Hospice House), 464 Pine Street, Meadville, PA 16335, where Marcella was blessed to reside for the past four months.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.
